Bill Summary

An Act to promote democratic accountability in the board of elementary and secondary education would reconstitute and expand the state education board (BESE) to require that it include representation of every region of the state, an economically diverse mix of municipalities across the income spectrum, and the voices of both educators and school committees. It would also ensure that the governor’s appointments to a majority of the board’s seats are confirmed with the votes of enough state lawmakers to represent a majority of our state’s residents.
