Help With Municipal Issues: Worcester

It’s always good to get involved in your neighborhood–to address local issues, to engage in opportunities in your area, and to be part of a rich community of neighbors. From filing complaints to canvassing for votes to workshopping areas for growth, there are countless ways to immerse yourself in local politics.

There are some issues that are addressed at the municipal level instead of by state legislative offices like ours. These include:

  • Voter registration and voting in your local elections

  • Complaints and concerns related to roads and traffic

  • Local police and fire

  • Local taxes and fees

  • Permitting

Worcester City Council

Worcester City Council is Worcester’s legislative body, considering and voting on important issues that concern both specific districts and the city as a whole. Including the Mayo, there are 11 councilors, including five district-specific and six at-large.

In the 17th Worcester District, the neighborhoods of Worcester’s Green Island, Four Corners, Main South, South Worcester, Piedmont, downtown west of Main Street, Garner/Kilby/Hammond, Clark University, Webster Square, are part of district 4.

Worcester Neighborhood Association Meetings: Neighborhood association meetings are a great way to get involved in your area, to be aware of local concerns, and to collaborate on real solutions. Worcester has multiple thriving communities that hold regular meetings, keeping you in the know about what’s important. 

  • Beacon Brightly: The Main South Beacon Brightly Neighborhood Association Meetings take place on the second Thursday of every month from 5:30 PM-7:30 PM at the Y.M.C.A, 766 Main Street, Worcester, MA. 

  • Columbus Park: The Columbus Park Neighborhood Association Meetings occur on the fourth Thursday of every month from 6:00 PM-7:00 PM at Stearns Tavern, 72 Coes Street, Worcester MA. 

  • Green Island: The next Green Island Neighborhood Association Meetings will occur on September 8th 2025, October 6th 2025, and November 3rd 2025 at the WRTA Building, 42 Quinsigamond Avenue, Worcester MA.

  • Mill Street Area: The Mill Street Area Neighborhood Association Meetings take place on the third Thursday of every month from 6:00 PM-7:00 PM at Stearns Tavern, 72 Coes Street, Worcester MA. 

  • Webster Square: The Webster Square Neighborhood Association Meetings occur on the first Thursday of every month from 7:00 PM-8:00 PM at Our Lady of Angels, 122 Main Street, Worcester MA.
